Uses for RemoteScan® over Terminal Services or Citrix
with any RDP or ICA or VDI network environment

RemoteScan - Terminal Services Scanning software

With RemoteScan® software, scanners and other imaging devices connected directly to client workstations can be accessed by any software running on Windows® Terminal Services or Citrix® / XenServer / XenDesktop etc. servers. In addition, RemoteScan is a software solution that turns any document scanner, ID or card scanner, flatbed scanner, or any other imaging device, into a network device right out of the box. With RemoteScan , ordinary as well as high-end scanners can now be shared with other PCs or thin clients across your entire network.

Works with all TWAIN and WIA scanner drivers and all software packages which use scanners or image acquisition. RemoteScan installs in minutes, does not appreciably load network traffic and does not compromise network security.

RemoteScan provides the the practical solution for sharing any type of imaging device or scanner over a variety of complex networks. We are the only stable solution for scanning into hosted applications in Terminal Services or Citrix® environments and are recommended by many of the largest hospitals, electronic medical record vendors, and hardware manufacturers.

Current Customers

RemoteScan software is currently used by thousands of customers, including numerous hospitals, medical clinics, doctor's offices, banks, accounting firms, insurance agencies, law offices, manufacturing facilities, and government offices. Customers include businesses located in over 120 countries. RemoteScan is approved for use by the VA Hospital network, and is recommended by Wyse Technologies for use on their XPe or Windows Embedded Standard thin client appliances. RemoteScan is a technology partner with Cerner, and NextGen (two of the largest and most respected EMR companies), and RemoteScan software is recommended and purchased directly by Allscripts, Sage Healthcare, Epic Systems Corporation, McKesson Corporation, Cerner Corporation, GE Healthcare and by numerous Citrix® Gold and Platinum Solution Providers. A quick search on Google® displays numerous end-user and technical-expert forum recommendations of RemoteScan software.

What RemoteScan Does

With RemoteScan, scanners connected directly to client workstations can be accessed by any software running on Windows® Terminal Services or Citrix® servers. RemoteScan Enterprise for Terminal Services and Citrix® users easily scan directly from their workstations without compromising network security and without having to establish shared folders or directories. RemoteScan uses RDP and ICA protocols for total, secure integration with Windows® Terminal Services and Citrix® environments.

RemoteScan allows a single scanner or imaging device to be shared with other users over a network (IP, LAN, WAN), much in the same way as it is common to share printers.

RemoteScan easily installs on any PC running Windows (all versions including Windows 7). RemoteScan also installs on Thin Client appliances that are running XPe or Windows Embedded Standard. RemoteScan, in any license configuration, has a small foot print (less than 2 meg), and is provided instantly as a self-installing download from www.RemoteScan.com. Installation is automatic and takes less than two minutes.

RemoteScan Uses

RemoteScan is the recommended solution for any business with distributed offices that need scanned documents to be stored on a remote server. Our software is widely used by companies in the medical, financial, freight, insurance, and hospitality industries.

RemoteScan works with all EMR, patient billing and medical software systems. The RemoteScan Enterprise for Terminal Services / Citrix® version is the solution for scanning directly into applications in a Terminal Services or Citrix® environment. Medical offices are required by HIPPA regulations to include electronic images (photocopies or scans) of insurance cards and hand-written notes with every patient's electronic record. RemoteScan helps meet "Meaningful Use" criteria. With RemoteScan software, scanned images are directly incorporated into the work-flow of any EMR or medical billing software system. With RemoteScan, these software packages are able to fully utilize their scanning capabilities when used with Terminal Services or Citrix®.

RemoteScan works with all financial software systems. RemoteScan allows satellite offices and bank branches to utilize any scanning software with their paperless work flow solutions.

RemoteScan allows cost-saving results by enabling any imaging device to be networked and used with enterprise document management systems. The LAN version of RemoteScan allows a single scanner to meet the needs of an office in the same way that a single printer is often shared by several office workers.

Installing and using RemoteScan

RemoteScan software is provided as downloadable, self-installing executable. The setup program walks users through the installation and configuration steps. Downloading, installing and configuring of RemoteScan takes only a few minutes, and can be done by any office worker.

RemoteScan is installed on each computer or thin client appliance where scanners are directly attached, as well as onto any computer which needs to access the scanners. In Terminal Services / Citrix® environments, RemoteScan is also installed on the Windows Terminal Services / Citrix Server or server farm.

For RemoteScan to function properly, it is necessary to first connect a TWAIN or WIA compatible scanner to a PC or Thin Client appliance, and then install the scanner driver provided by the scanner manufacturer. RemoteScan will then become the user interface for the installed scanner.

When RemoteScan is used to access high-end Copy Centers, RemoteScan as well as the TWAIN driver for the Copy Center needs to be installed on only one PC directly connected to the Copy Center. Then any other user on the network, or Terminal Services / Citrix clients can access the Copy Center and scan directly into their software applications, rather than being forced to save scanned images to shared directories.

RemoteScan Features

  • Support for all scanners - Any number and combination of scanners can be shared on a network with RemoteScan. In a Windows Terminal Services / Citrix environment this is especially advantageous since all application software on the application server will "see" and then list individual scanners which are in fact located at remote locations as if they were locally attached directly to the application server. This means that individual end users can purchase and install a variety of scanners from different manufacturers on each of their own workstations which then can be accessed by application software running on the Terminal Services / Citrix server.
  • TWAIN and WIA - RemoteScan supports all TWAIN and WIA compatible scanner drivers, as well as all imaging devices, including high-end scanners, sheet feeder scanners, duplex scanners, 'all-in-one' devices, card scanners, low cost scanners, flatbed scanners, web cams, and digital cameras.
  • Lossless Compression - RemoteScan uses highly efficient, lossless compression for transmitting data, and does not appreciably slow down overall network traffic. Many of our customers are using RemoteScan to scan into hosted applications that are running on servers at distant locations with no discernable bandwidth congestion.
  • RDP and ICA Support - RemoteScan uses native RDP and ICA protocols, which means that a scanner attached to a workstation can be accessed by the Terminal Services or Citrix application software through each logged on users desktop session without changing firewall configurations and without compromising network security.
  • Customizable Look and Feel: restrict user's scanning choices - Use the RemoteScan interface to 'lock-down' scanner settings, even among many different brands and models of scanners. Forces scanning area, DPI resolution and color settings to be consistent, so as to stream-line work flow of such things as insurance card scanning into patient record systems, etc.
